This was due to some backend changes with /etc/defaults/pcbsd being moved to /etc/defaults/trueos-desktop. Copying /etc/defaults/pcbsd to /etc/defaults/trueos-desktop resolved. We have since committed a fix but it will not be ready until packages are rebuilt. I will keep this ticket open until I can confirm it's fixed in packages.

This has been resolved in pc-updatemanager. An upgrade from PCBSD to TrueOS is not supported however. A reinstall, or non destructive install 'a new feature in the installer' would be recommended to install TrueOS.
